Discover the Heartbeat of Etude Lab Audio
Made to be heard
The Story
I’ve spent the last 20+ years in professional audio — across AV, corporate events, and broadcast — and increasingly in the studio work that’s become Etude Lab Audio.
Etude Lab is the audio production studio I run from Memphis. The focus is narrower than my live-event work: podcast production, sonic branding, original music, and voiceover for brands, agencies, churches, and creators who care about how their work sounds.
I studied music in school. The tech side came alongside — I’ve always been the kind of person who wanted to know both how a song was written and how it was captured. Those two interests don’t fully resolve in most career paths. They do in this one.
The work I take on is the work I want to do well. Quiet rooms, careful ears, and a process designed to make audio feel inevitable.
The Room
The studio is built around a small but deliberate set of tools. There are computers and plugins and the standard infrastructure you’d expect after two decades. But the personality comes from the hardware — a Mesa Boogie, an OB-X8, a Sub 37, a PRO 3. Instruments that demand a relationship rather than presets.
That isn’t a flex. It’s because the texture and character of physical hardware show up in finished mixes in ways that subscriptions to plugin packs can’t fake. When you hear a piece of music with a particular shape and warmth, there’s usually a real instrument somewhere in the chain.
Add a treated room, a monitoring chain calibrated by ear over years, a microphone cabinet I’m weirdly proud of, and a process designed around taste rather than turnaround.
Memphis
This is home. I’m from here, built my life here, and the studio is here.
Memphis has its own sonic history — Stax, Sun, the river — and somewhere in the back of my head sits the conviction that this city could be a serious modern music hub again, not just a place that lives off the catalog. There are signs of it: the studios that have opened, the artists who chose to stay, the producers quietly doing world-class work without making noise about being in Memphis. Etude Lab is one small contribution to that argument.
But the truer everyday answer for why I’m here is simpler: this is where my work is, and where I want to keep doing it.
